The Portuguese region of the Azores has a spectacular climate
Although the kingdom of Portugal was once a massive empire spanning multiple continents, it is now limited mainly to the Iberian peninsula. Nevertheless, it has two autonomous regions outside the mainland: Azores and Madeira.
The Azores region includes nine islands, considered by many to be heaven on Earth. Its climate is uncommonly mild since the Gulf stream keeps temperatures from going too high or too low. The Portuguese colonized this area during the 14th century.
