Meteora is home to six Greek Orthodox monasteries built into boulders
Greece is home to many famous tourist attractions, such as the Parthenon or the Acropolis, but not all their beauties were constructed by the ancients. The rock formation of Meteora in the central part of the country also contains impressive sights.
The mountains host a massive complex of Eastern Orthodox monasteries that were all built on immense natural pillars and rounded boulders found in the area. The site is quite dangerous since pieces of rock from the mountains fall often.
