The island of Ometepe in Nicaragua is made out of two volcanoes
At the center of Lake Nicaragua lies a small island called Ometepe that is made out of two volcanoes. The striking contrast between the high peaks and the calm waters makes this one of the most captivating views ever.
The island gets its name from the Nahuatl words ome meaning “two,” and tepetl, which means “mountains.” Traces of human settlements in the form of petroglyphs and stone idols were found in the area. This suggests that it was inhabited as early as 300 BC.
