The Pamukkale site in Western Turkey is home to unique thermal pools
There is a unique site in Western Turkey called Pamukkale, which means “cotton castle” in the local language. It is famous for its thermal springs and mineral-rich waters that collect in and cascade down terraces into the pools below.
Crystallized travertine deposits created by the high calcium carbonate in the water give the terraces their white look. The area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.
