Charles Darwin may have invented the office chair
A staple of every office space is a comfy chair on wheels. Most modern varieties have armrests and adjustable heights, and the more expensive ones are even designed to improve the user’s posture. The origin of this essential workplace item is attributed to none other than the father of the theory of evolution: Charles Darwin.
As the story goes, in the 1840s Darwin adapted a Willian IV style armchair to his needs by attaching some cast-iron bed legs so he could roll around his laboratory more easily. Many historians consider his creation to be the first office chair to have been made.
