Honey does not go bad so easily
Humans have developed many different methods to make sure their food stays edible for longer, such as salting, pickling, or fermenting. Nevertheless, there are some foods that are naturally self-preserving. Honey is one of them. In fact, 3,000-year-old honey was found in Egypt, and it was still good to eat.
How is it possible for a substance to stay edible for 3,000 years, you might ask? The key is in honey’s unique characteristics. Its low water content and higher acidity make it a hard environment for bacteria to grow in. Additionally, it has antimicrobial properties, which also impede bacterial growth.
