Singapore outlawed chewing gum to keep its streets clean
Singapore is a small island located in Southeast Asia, and it has grown to become one of the richest countries in Asia thanks to its trading and economic globalization policies. However, what makes this country so beautiful is not only its riches but also its commitment to keeping its cities clean.
In 1992, several laws were passed to make sure the country would look as prosperous as it was. Its leaders aimed for Singapore to become a “first-world oasis in a third-world region.” Among the many activities that the government outlawed was chewing gum. They also outlawed littering, painting graffiti, jaywalking, and spitting.
