Global warming could lead to chocolate going extinct
The effects of climate change have become a threat to many species of animals and plants that are now in danger of being lost forever. A part of this group is the cacao bean plant, where chocolate comes from. It is believed that rising temperatures and deforestation might soon make this wonderful tree obsolete.
The plant is native to the Amazonian forest of Central and South America and is an essential crop on which many communities subsist. Experts estimate that it could go extinct as early as 2050. However, Peruvian researchers found that some species of wild cacao might subsist for longer until 2070.
