Thai police used pink Hello Kitty armbands as punishment
Back in 2007, officers in charge of the Thai Police instituted a policy to keep wayward officers in line. The Crime Suppression Division in Bangkok did not want their policemen to display improper behavior, such as littering or showing up late for work. So, they decided to issue very special armbands to those who misbehaved.
They assigned the offenders pink Hello Kitty armbands in an effort to make them feel humiliated. They had previously tried with plaid cloths, but the wayward policemen ended up taking them home as souvenirs. The chief believed that a girlier version would make them feel more embarrassed.
