Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is returned to The Louvre after the War
War is destructive, and popular historical paintings were a target for vandalism during the era of WWI and WWII. The combined efforts of some groups led to the survival of many pieces of art during World War II. It is strange to see the Mona Lisa on a ship with the shining walls of the Louvre.
This image shows the Mona Lisa returned to the Louvre, courtesy of the Allies’ initiative, also known as the Monuments Men. After leaving the Louvre on August 28, 1939, the Mona Lisa moved more than five times as it was targeted regularly.
