The Tank Man
On a beautiful morning on June 5, 1989, Jeff Widener, a photographer, was enjoying the views of the Beijing Hotel on the 6th floor until he spotted the Tank Man across the road. He saw numerous tanks heading to Tiananmen Square as the Chinese troops were about to attack pro-democracy demonstrators camped on the plaza.
He saw a man who stood in front of the long trail of tanks and refused to move despite multiple threats. Jeff saw this as an opportunity and took a photograph as he was in China to capture the events happening in Tiananmen Square. His photograph graced the front covers of newspapers.
