Ruby Nell Bridges teased and taunted by her white peers
Racism and segregation are a fundamental part of the United States. For a long time, people with different skin colors were forbidden from interacting or attending the same schools. This photograph shows Ruby Nell Bridges Hall, a famous American Activist and the first African-American child to be included in the all-white elementary school in Louisiana, William Frantz.
Before she attended the all-white school, Ruby attended a segregated kindergarten in 1959 and became one of the lucky black kids to pass a test that deemed them fit to attend an all-white school in 1960. Rather than being welcomed, the students teased and taunted her as she walked to class.
