The Lincoln Memorial, before other buildings were built
The Lincoln Memorial is one of the United States structures built to honor the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. It is also one of the most visited sites loved by Americans and is located at the western end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
This photograph shows the Lincoln Memorial before other structures were built; the surrounding area looks unfinished and empty. Later, these abandoned pieces of land were filled with house gardens, pools, and monuments.
