This zookeeper had to negotiate with a runaway chimpanzee
Sami the Chimpanzee was kept at the Belgrade Zoo between 1988 and 1992. The animal became a media sensation after attempting to escape not once but twice. His story touched the Serbian people, who associated his desire to escape captivity with their fight to escape Soviet control.
The first time he ran away, he was cornered at Kalemegdan park and convinced to return by zoo director Vuk Bojović. This picture captured the man trying to convince the wayward Chimpanzee to return peacefully to his enclosure. Bujović took Sami by the hand, and they both returned to the zoo.
