Pablo Picasso painted this when he was only fifteen years old
Spanish painter Pablo Picasso is mainly known as the greatest exponent of Cubism, an artistic painting style that usually depicted different views of the same figure on one plane. However, his first pieces are much more figurative, like his work when he was fifteen years old.
It is called “First Communion,” He painted it for the Exhibition of Fine Arts in Barcelona in 1896. His father insisted he enters the exhibition and, as he was still studying at the La Lonja School of Art, he did. Picasso was never particularly religious, but several earlier paintings depicted holy icons.
