Niagara Falls froze over only once in 1883
Niagara Falls sits on the border of Canada and the United States and is one of the greatest tourist attractions in North America. These famous waterfalls partially freeze during the winter months, but in 1883, for the first and only time, they froze over entirely.
This allowed tourists to get closer than ever before. Some areas formed “ice bridges” which people could cross to get from the U.S. side to the Canadian side. You can see in the picture that everything was covered in ice, turning the place into a real-life winter wonderland.
