Historical Photos That Changed Everyone’s Perspective Of The World

August 26, 2025 by Shelley Thompson

Historical records are a key tool for reconstructing how people lived in past eras. The more evidence we have of what they ate or how they spent their daily lives, the better we can understand their beliefs and customs. However, there is still so much that we do not know for sure, so much information that has been lost forever. Fortunately, the advent of photography changed the way we understand history. It gave us the ability to make extremely detailed records and allowed us to see our ancestors in a new light. It also helped us see people and events from a completely different perspective. This compilation of unique historical photographs will help you see the past in a completely new way.

People from three Soviet countries formed a human chain to protest against Soviet control

The former Soviet Union was a group of Eastern European republics under communist rule. Most local governments answered to the central Russian government. However, by the end of the 1980s, it began to fall apart. In 1989, citizens from Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania formed a human chain to protest against Soviet control over their countries.

These people had suffered under communist rule, and it was time for a change. Around 2 million citizens joined the protest, and they managed to form a human chain that was 600 km long and united all three countries. Two years later, the Soviet Union was disbanded.
