The Marcus Aurelius column in Rome is incredibly detailed
Located in the Piazza Colonna in the city of Rome, Italy, Marcus Aurelius’s column is an example of Roman builders’ incredible craftsmanship. It was completed around AD 193 and was made in the Doric style. It was a monument dedicated to emperor Marcus Aurelius.
The relief tells the story of the Danubian or Marcomannic wars, which lasted from 166 until the emperor’s death. It begins with his army crossing the Danube river. It portrays two different expeditions and shows the different battles in great detail. You can see how each soldier’s armor is intricately carved throughout the marble column.
