Our Lady of Atocha
In 1622, a Spanish galleon containing a fortune in treasures sunk off the coast of Florida due to an unnamed hurricane. There were a thousand solid silver bars, hundreds of pounds of gold bullion, and coins. That’s what treasure hunter Mel Fisher searched for more than ten years.
Until 1989, when Fisher finally located its whereabouts, the treasures remained elusive and hidden at the bottom of the sea. The fortune found is worth at least 400 million dollars. The original name of the ship was ‘Nuestra Señora de Atocha’ which translates as ‘Our Lady of Atocha.’
