The Yonaguni Complex near Japan
In 1996, a scuba instructor discovered something unexpectedly cool near the coast of the Japanese island Yonaguni. Below the surface was a pyramid-shaped complex complete with steps, columns, and a human face carved inside the rocks.
As the years passed, experts kept visiting the underwater location to find more information about it. They determined it was a man-made creation, approximately ten thousand years BC. It is believed that the pyramid sank into the ocean after an earthquake.
