Loki’s castle in the Norwegian sea
In the depths of the Norwegian sea, at approximately 2300 meters below sea level, is located Loki’s Castle. It consists of tower-shaped biological structures, and its creepy silhouette evokes an image from a Nordic mythology story. It was named ‘Loki’s Castle’ by the scientists that discovered it in 2005.
The structure of Loki’s Castle is formed by hydrothermal vents that, due to sediment accumulation, took the form of ten-foot-tall chimneys. Swedish scientists found a microorganism similar to the one that could be the missing link, being the predecessor of living beings and evolution.
