Take a look at how these beautiful stairs were carved
This spiral staircase carved from a single tree in 1851 is located in Lednice Chateau, Czech Republic. And although the staircase is made from a single oak tree, it is not a single piece of wood and has no nails. During the chateau’s neo-Gothic reconstruction in 1851, it was created by the Viennese joinery firm of Karl Leister.
The carved details of the staircase are based on plant and animal motifs. Moreover, the staircase connects the chateau library to the first-floor princely living rooms. And the impressive thing about this is that wood routers did not exist back then. It’s hard to imagine just how many hours of hand carving this must have taken.
