The Sakya Monastery Library in Tibet
In 2003, Sakya Monastery’s massive library of up to 84,000 books on traditional stacks 60 meters long and 10 meters high was examined. Most books there include Buddhist scriptures, but it also has works of literature, history, philosophy, astronomy, mathematics, and art. Some books may have been unopened for several years.
However, the Tibetan Academy of Social Sciences is investigating them since most have not been cataloged yet. This monastery was established in 1073. And maybe, long ago, the ancients of Tibet foresaw the need to safeguard original writings, and over the years, that was done.
