Mass graves are not something to be proud of
These are the skeletons of soldiers killed during the Battle of Imera in Palermo. The historical battle between the Greeks and the Carthaginians resulted in the Greek Siciliotes’ victory. Back then, Sicily was known as the Mediterranean’s jewel; whoever possessed it had the most amount of power and wealth. No wonder battles ensued.
Sicily was desired by the Etruscans, Carthaginians, Greeks, and Romans. The large island saw a lot of strife, feuds, and bloodshed. The bodies in this picture were real, living, breathing people, so, this historic site is actually quite sad. Wars: pointless then, pointless now.
