A prehistoric archaeological site in Shetland, Scotland
Jarlshof is Shetland’s most well-known archaeological site. It is located on the Mainland of Shetland in Sumburgh and has been described as one of the most remarkable archaeological sites ever excavated in the British Isles. It houses artifacts dating from 2500 BC to 1600 AD.
There are several different types of structures among the Iron Age ruins, including a broch and a defensive wall around the site. Moreover, various works of art from the Pictish period, including a painted pebble and a symbol stone, were discovered. The Viking Age ruins are the largest site visible anywhere in Great Britain.
