Many barbers also worked as surgeons
Most of us would not feel comfortable having our barber remove our wisdom teeth. It goes without saying that this would not happen today, but people did just that in medieval times. There was no such thing as being a surgeon. Instead, villagers could go to their friendly neighborhood barber to get the needed medical treatment.
The Middle Ages were very wild times. Getting a medical procedure during a visit to the barber was something ordinary to most of the population. These almost doctors provided wound care, set broken bones, and dressed wounds. In the 16th century, barber-surgeons began to work in tooth-pulling and treating cataracts.
