Town criers shared the current news with the people
We know that the name of this profession is a bit tricky, but let us clarify it. Unlike how it sounds, town criers do not have anything in common with crying. These men were actually the ones in charge of informing the people of the town’s latest news even before newspapers were invented.
This is one of the eldest professions on this list. It comes from 11th century Britain, where they are thought to have passed the news of William of Normandy’s invasion to the common folk. These individuals were specifically called to inform everyone about the King’s proclamation, yet the job evolved with time.
