In bowling alleys, pinsetters kept the pins in place
One of the most entertaining activities for both children and adults is going bowling. This fun sport has existed since the 1500s. Still, even in more modern times, like the beginning of the 20th century, the bowling alleys looked a bit different than they look today, especially for one small detail.
The first mechanical pinsetter was invented by a man called Fred Schmidt, who sold the patent in 1941. However, these automated pin setup and retrieval machines were not common until the 1960s. Until then, pinsetters were in charge of removing and replacing the pins at bowling alleys between each turn.
