Water carriers were essential for society in the past
Some professions remain even when hundreds of years have gone by. Still, jobs can change quite a bit in different places at different points in time. Clearly, even though there are water carriers today, they will not be the same as what they were in India in the 1600s.
People like the man in this picture were essential to small villages throughout the years. Their job was to collect drinkable water and carry it back to all the families that needed it. However, pipe systems were invented and became more common worldwide, so the job became obsolete in most places.
