Resurrectionists had to dig up bodies for medical students
Back in the 19th century, people that wanted to study medical sciences had plenty of challenges. Unlike today, back then, there was not as much information available about how our bodies work. In order to further investigate the human body and practice surgery, doctors and medical students needed deceased bodies.
Therefore, professors and students from the medical field hired resurrectionists to help them out. The work of resurrectionists was super creepy and frankly quite unethical as well. They had the task of digging up graves and taking out the corpses for medical students. Luckily, this job eventually disappeared.
