‘Vivandieres’ served in the Civil War alongside men
These days, women around the world have pretty much the same rights as men. We’re not all the way there, but things are very different today compared to in the distant past. During the Civil War, for example, men were the only ones that could serve in the army for their side. The only women who served were called the “Vivandieres.”
These women were brave enough to stand on the battlefield alongside men. This term popped up during the Civil War. They had to work all day long to take care of the wounded army men, cook food for the troops and even fight. Even today, people still remember them for their essential work.
