Nowadays, we’re used to various professions that did not exist in the past. Just think of all the jobs related to the Internet, for example. In West England, there were toad doctors

Around the 1600s, people did not have much of a clue when it came to medical research. Back then, doctors had the craziest theories that even today remain to be proven. One of the most bizarre beliefs is that toads could be used to heal illnesses and other medical affections.

That is why doctors used toads to practice medicine. They were very popular, especially in West England, and they were called toad doctors. To heal their patients, they used dried and powdered toads. The general belief was that they soothed inflammation and relieved headaches as well as some skin conditions.
