‘Egglers’ sold batches of fresh eggs at farmers markets
It is not at all complicated to find fresh eggs nowadays. Shoppers just have to head out to the local supermarket or convenience store and where they can easily get half a dozen eggs or more. However, back in the day, if consumers did not have a chicken at home, getting fresh eggs was challenging if not nearly impossible.
That is why “egglers” were so important in the past. Their job mainly consisted of selling batches of fresh eggs in bulk, but they also sold other goods. For the general public, buying from these egglers at their local markets was the best way to ensure themselves a good batch of eggs.
