Mozart rose to fame at the same time the US began fighting for its independence
The latter half of the 18th century was filled with action. During the 1770s, America began working towards becoming independent. Meanwhile, across the ocean, Wolgang Amadeus Mozart was taking Europe by storm. He was employed by the Salzburg Court between 1773 and 1777.
By 1781, America’s War of Independence was reaching an end, but things in Vienna, Austria, were pretty much as they had always been. The exception was that Mozart had moved on from the Court and had begun working as a freelancer.
