The Chicago Cubs’ dry spell began before the Ottoman Empire fell
The Chicago Cubs are one of the US’s most prominent baseball teams. However, up until they won their third World Series in 2016, they had been suffering from one of the longest slumps in history. It started all the way back in 1908, when the Ottoman Empire was still standing.
The Ottoman Empire was founded in 1299 and only fell in 1918 after losing in World War I. It is incredible to think that some professional sports teams in the US and elsewhere have longer histories than specific empires or countries.
