Italy and Coca-Cola are practically contemporaries
Although many Italian cities have been standing for centuries, the country itself is relatively young. It was not until 1861 that the states of the Italian Peninsula united to form the Kingdom of Italy during what was later called the Risorgimento.
This means that Italy as a country is barely five years older than the soft drink Coca-Cola, which was invented in 1886. An Atlanta pharmacist called Dr. John S. Pemberton was responsible for creating this popular sugary drink and sold the syrup to his local pharmacy.
