Machu Picchu was completed 23 years before construction of the Sistine Chapel began
We have already mentioned how the Renaissance was packed with meaningful and impressive historical events, but we only covered what happened in Europe. During the 15th century, the Americas also saw significant and historic developments of their own, the remnants of some are still around today.

Experts estimate that the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu was built around 1450 during what is considered the early Renaissance period in Europe. By contrast, the construction of the Sisting Chapel, the most remarkable example of the era’s art style, began in 1473.
