Armadillos can hold their breath underwater for up to seven minutes
Armadillos seem like the most skittish animal ever. After all, their name in Spanish means “little armed ones,” referring to their characteristic shell that protects them. However, they have strengths of their own that make them pretty interesting animals. For example, they can hold their breath for long periods of time.
These animals are able to hold their breath for seven whole minutes. When an armadillo needs to cross a stream of water it will sink to the bottom and crawl across. But, it can also inflate their intestines and use them as a flotation device to float across the stream.
