Some penguins will turn away from their colony and start heading for the interior of the continent to die
There is a weird fact about penguins that leaves researchers perplexed. Every once in a while, a penguin will suddenly turn away from its colony and start going toward the interior of the Antarctic continent. They will leave the safety of the colony and head off alone towards a certain death.
In the past, researchers in Antarctica would try to take them back to the colony or block their path. However, these rogue penguins would simply turn away and begin their journey again. And some would even get violent if they encountered an intervention. The prevailing theory is that these penguins are depressed, but nobody is completely sure.
