Many bird species eat the feces of their babies
There are more than ten thousand bird species in the world. All of them have beaks, feathers, and lay eggs, yet each of them has its own special characteristics. A rather off-putting attribute some of these birds share is that they eat their babies’ poop. This sounds disgusting, but it has a reason behind it.
Like all newborns, baby birds poop a lot. But if you look into most nests, there is little to no evidence of it. The process of bird disposal is actually quite disturbing for us, humans. A nestling turns its rear to its parent and ejects a fecal sac. The parent then scarfs it down as a snack.
