Turtles can breathe through their butts
Turtles are truly special animals. You have tortoises and sea turtles and all of these species come in various shapes and sizes. Some even come in different, wild colors with stripes and patterns. Still, there is something you might not know about turtles. Some turtles can actually breathe from their butts.
While cloacal respiration is not the same as breathing, for turtles, it is their main way to get oxygen when they go into hibernation. As their habitat’s temperature starts to lower, so do their metabolism rates. So, they are okay with just breathing out of their buttholes for the winter.
