A sperm whale call is so loud that the sound waves could kill a human
When one thinks of loud animals, one of the last things that come to mind is whales. However, sperm whales are the loudest mammals ever. Their vocalizations reach an astonishing two hundred and thirty decibels. For reference, a jet engine from a hundred feet away produces about a hundred decibels.
You should know that at around a hundred and fifty decibels your eardrums will burst. And, because sound travels very differently underwater, those two hundred decibels are far more amplified than they would be on land. Whales use their sound mainly to communicate, investigate their surroundings, and navigate.
