Bees do not like bananas
Bananas and bees do not seem to have much in common, apart from being black and yellow. But there is a weird reason why beekeepers do not eat bananas or banana-flavor snacks around the hives. That is because the chemical compound some candy factories use to make fake banana flavor can make bees feel pretty distressed.
Most of the “banana” flavor in bananas is due to an organic compound called isoamyl acetate. It has a strong banana scent so it is great for flavoring candies. The problem is that bees also use it as an alarm pheromone. So beekeepers never eat bananas near a beehive to avoid stressing them.
