Female dragonflies will fake being dead in order to stop unwanted male advances
We live in a fascinating world. Sometimes, we believe that we are the only smart species in the world. But if we look hard enough, we can find other animals that are pretty clever too. For example, female dragonflies will play dead to avoid the sexual advances of aggressive males.
This behavior was seen on blue-eyed darners, a colorful dragonfly that can be found across North America. When males of this species try to mate and the females want to refuse the advances, they recur to a strange technique. These dragonflies will pretend to be dead just to be left alone.
