This medieval jewel was found by a man with a metal detector
There are plenty of stories about ordinary people finding treasure and having their lives changed drastically. For 34-year-old Mark Thompson, the story became a reality. He was canvassing Sherwood forest, which is believed to have been home to Robin Hood when his metal detector went off.
It was a medieval gold ring. The body is made out of gold and engraved on one side with a figure of infant Christ and on the other with one of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. The stone in the middle is a large sapphire. The British Museum authenticated the finding and valued it at £50,000.
