A 3,000-year-old palette that still has its paint cakes
The Ancient Egyptians were one of the most influential civilizations in human history, and fortunately, a surprising amount of records about them survive today. Amongst these records are hundreds of artifacts that show the Egyptian’s incredible architectural, engineering, and artistic feats.
This paint palette dates back to the reign of Amenhotep III, which was a time of great prosperity for the Egyptians. It was carved from a single piece of ivory, and the six cakes include blue, green, yellow, red, and black pigments, and what might be a brown pigment as well.
