White Baby Flamingo
Something is missing from this picture. Can you tell what it is? Great guess! The baby flamingo doesn’t have the signature pink color; flamingos feed on foods that contain carotenoids, giving their feathers a vibrant hue. These foods produce a pigment that dissolves in fats. These fats are then deposited into the bird’s feathers, turning them pink.
Some foods eaten by flamingos, like blue-green and red algae, could likely kill other animals. This is the literal definition of you are what you eat.
