Giant Amethyst Geode
A geode is formed anywhere there is or has been lava near the earth’s surface. An amethyst geode refers to a hollow rock with inner walls made of amethyst crystals. They can range from small baseball sizes to bigger or larger-sized geodes.
The one in the image above is over 9 ft. long, almost 6 ft. wide, and weighs nearly 29,000 pounds. These beautiful rock formations are common in Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, Namibia, and some parts of the United States. They are also found in places with high volcanic activities. Amethysts make fine gems for jewelry and can range from pale lilac to reddish-purple. Since ancient times, they have been used in pendants, rings, and earrings and were once considered as precious as sapphires, but they are now more affordable.
