There’s More Beneath The Surface
The ancient Polynesians carved the mysterious Easter Island heads sometime between A.D 1100 and 1500. The Polynesians traditionally call them “moai” but are commonly known as the incredible giant heads by average folk. This has been so for thousands of years, so imagine how shocked people were to discover that these giant heads have heads buried underneath the ground. There is definitely more than meets the eye here.
Like other ancient cultures, would these statues hold the remains of ancient Polynesian rulers? Or are they just images carved in stone? Did you know that it is forbidden to touch the Moai? Even visitors are not allowed to touch them, and doing so could get you in big trouble. A Finnish tourist may have been a bit too excited and broke off a Moai’s earlobe as a souvenir and was charged a $17,000 fine. So, if you ever wander to the Easter Islands, be careful not to touch anything.
