The Broken Fort in Ireland
This beautiful rock is called the Dun Briste Sea Stack, and it was formed about 350 million years ago during the lower Carboniferous period. This was when the coastline was at a greater distance, and the sea temperatures were far higher.
The Dun Briste, which translates in Gaelic to ‘broken fort,’ is a sedimentary rock, and the first attempt to climb it was in 1990 by three UK climbers; several others have attempted since then. I am sure that Irish folklore has some interesting story about the Dun Briste, one that would keep your feet tapping in excitement.
